Let me tell you about face muscles exercise and the power of using them. Trying to find the most efficient anti aging skin care treatments through research over the last few years I found out about face exercises. Face exercises is nothing new, some people have been practising them for many years now, even the original fitness guru Jack Lananne credited his youthful looks to facial exercises. As we get older the skin begins to sag, creating wrinkles and folds. One of the main reasons of sagging skin is the loss of collagen and elastin, natural proteins that give structure and elasticity to the skin. When collagen production diminish the skin is not able to retain moisture like before and it will be dryer.

There are, of course other factors that influence sagging skin. These factors can be external such as sunlight which is the worst offender, tobacco, stress, alcohol abuse, unhealthy diet and pollution. Internal factors apart from reduction of skin density due to the loss of collagen and elastine include: hormones in women dealing with the menopause, reduction of fat tissue and shrinking bones.

Who ever though that the bones on the face can shrink? Well is something that comes with age and apparently affects women earlier than men, GRRR!
Anyway apart from the several treatments that we can find to restore volume to the skin such as facial fillers or implants we have a more natural alternative with face muscles exercise.

To me facial toning exercises have many advantages over other lets say, more popular treatments. For instance they are cheaper, no side effects, no pain, can be done from the comfort of your own home or any other place and it won’t be any “horror story”. OK, a facial workout can take longer to see results, but if you are constant and work the muscles as per instructions you will start to notice small improvements sometimes in as little as one week.

Probably many of you are already familiar with exercise for face muscles, but in any case I’m going to give you three facial exercises that will help to tone some problematic areas of your face: eyes, chin and cheeks.

1- How to reduce double chin- With shoulders relaxed, tilt your head backwards raising your chin. In this position place a closed hand underneath the chin and move the chin muscles forward and hold for a count of 10. Return to the original position and repeat 10 times. Do more as you get stronger.

2- Get rid of cheek fat- Place two fingers just below the apple of your cheekbones. Apply some resistance with your fingers and with the mouth open in a long “O” try to smile with the corners of your mouth. This is a small movement. Repeat 20 times and increase as you get stronger.

3- Eye muscle exercises- With your eye closed place the middle fingers at the top of the nose bridge and look up. The eyes must remain closed at all times. Keep the head still when doing these under eye exercises. Repeat twenty times to begin with and as you get stronger increase the repetitions.

These are just a few of the many face muscle exercises that I practise every day. Is never too late or too early to get into the habit of doing facial yoga and believe me; if you are constant and serious about this, you will start seeing results soon and falling in love with you.
